Artimisia Afra/ Umhlonyane/Lengane/Wilde Als/Wormwood
Artemisia is a fortifying tonic, cleanses the blood and aids the bodies’ ability to absorb nutrients and rehydrate. Scientific studies have shown that the herb exhibits potent pharmacological activities including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antioxidant, antispasmodic, insecticidal, antimalarial, antifungal, antiparasitic antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. It also has CNS-effects (sedative, antidepressant) It helps regulate menstruation and stimulates a healthy appetite. This is an essential medicine to keep in these times, as it is most effective in treating respiratory complaints such as asthma, coughs, colds, viruses, fever, and pneumonia. One teaspoon per cup seeped for 10 mins and strained, up to 3 times a day for a week. Pause for four days. Then re- commence. (It should not be taken consistently.) Leaves may be rolled and stuffed into nostrils to and relieve congestion and kill bacteria when visiting the ill. May also be used as an enema.

Boil up in a pot with water, inhale steam with head tented by a thick cloth. Use the remaining infusion in your bath. May also be used as a poultice for aches and pains.
